Peal Power

Why do Hi-Fi mags talk about 'Peak Power' when there is no such thing.
There is Average Power V(RMS)^2/R or even Instantaneous Power (IV)
but no such thing as peak power. I assume this is to make an amplifier
seem more powerful than it is?
