Why do you think that some day you'll need to do the same thing?
Everyone needs a good laugh, so I'll give you one. My studio computer
is a Pentium II that I've had for nearly ten years. I'd like to add
WaveLab to Fast Edit for my studio software.
you'll need a truck, but that doesn't mean you need to know how to do a
valve job or build a truck out of parts scavenged from a junkyard.
Same with computers. Leave the bit whacking to those who've made a
career out of it and concentrate on what you do best,
This is the Age of Computers. Try to tell a musician who owns a
computer that he should leave the recording to someone with a decent
studio, a good mic collection, and years of experience. There are
certain things that we're just expected to be able to do even though
we're totally unqualified. One is record our own music. The other is
to maintain our own computers. It's the way we live.
