The problem parts are various 3/8 female to 5/8 male adapters.
OK, so I got some junky parts. Except for two things: I also have a
couple of jam nuts that fit the problem 5/8 parts perfectly, and the
kicker - I have one adapter that's 5/8 female to 5/8 male. The female
side mates perfectly with the problem adapters, and the male side fits
perfectly into the A27M. And (woe is me) I don't know where I got this
magical part.
Sounds like tolerances are working against you. Most mic stand tubes
have rolled threads which tend to be a little oversized. You can try
another adapter and maybe it'll fit better, have a machinst custom make
one for you (he'll need the parts you're trying to fit it to), or get
out the ol' jar of Vaseline. <g>
