Quit fooling with it yourself. If it's really valuable and you're (or
your client) is willing to pay a craftsman's price to get whatever's
left off the tape, send it to a professional. They invent secrets when
the usual methods don't work, and are generally, but not always, more
successful than straughtforward bake-and-play.
