It doesn't seem to. But I did think of something, and that's that I
have the Jukebox 3 USB driver and Nomad Explorer installed. That has a
tendency to mess with CD drives. I might try un-installing them if I
can't find another solution. I recall that when a problem cropped up on
my Win2K computer where the CD drives disappeared, someone from here
referred me to, I believe, an Adaptec web site, where I downloaded a
driver set that was supposed to cure ills resulting from the Creative
software, and it indeed worked. Maybe I can find that message and give
it a try.
I ran into the same disappearing drives issue when doing a HD upgrade
in 2K, ran all the ms updates at once and poof CD drives no longer
seen.
My successful solution ended up being install complete OS, run updates
singularly by oldest first, install software, run updates for software,
I've got the Jukebox3 and Playcenter, and Nero OEM with a Sony burner.
There is an update from Creative that deals with disc detection that
may
resolve your problem, I also had some chipset updates that dealt with
controller issues that kept drives from being seen.
You would think a 6 yr. old computer was from another planet when
your trying to tune it up again.
