Hi Charles,

While the AC97 sound cards are not very good and you are wise to
upgrade anyway, I would not expect that the feedback you describe is
being caused by the sound card. You might have the routing set up wrong
somehow. Perhaps the mixer applet is configured incorrectly.

However, your new sound card will have its own drivers and likely its
own software, and you can work out the configuration bugs with it.
