when this happens to my d8b, i power off the system & unplug the power

We have a Mackie D8B and have been having a very strange
problem...When the board and PC are first turned on the first 8
sliders will begin to slide up and down on their own at a very high
rate of speed. Rebooting the system serveral times can correct the
problem. This is an intermittent problem and we have sent the board
back to Mackie once. We have deleted the startup group and
re-created
it in case there was a corruption of data. This is in a Church, so
we
do not have a lot of high end technical knowledge, so any help that
you can be would be appreciated. Thanks.-

Go to the card cage where the DSP cards are (looking at the back of
the
board, they are on the left by the power supply connector), remove
the
cover, clean the contacts and reseat them. Make sure you have a
high--
quality--
serial cable conneted to the computer. See if that works, I had the
same
problem, replaced the cable, reseated the cards and it went away.-

... And I don't suppose it would hurt to "calibrate" the faders at
full-
cut and then-
store that in any new 'start-up' template as well.-

After it goes wacky like that, it's not a bad idea.

I've seen that behavior when the data cable from the PS is loose in the
board's socket. Reseating it and rebooting fixes it.
