Chances are the CDs you are comparing your recording to where recorded
with mics that cost more than your whole system aside from the other
racks of useful gearand by engineers with 20+ years of experience.
Also under the scrutiny of a seasoned producer after which the whole
recording then goes to a mastering engineer who polishes the tracks.
It is unfair to yourself to expect this kind of result, but good to
hear the difference and ask why.
It's a learning process from start to finish, with luck each recording
you do will be with gained experience and better gear.
Read the FAQ for the list and browse awhile. You'll figure out what
gear is good to own and what to rent. Stuff comes up for sale.
techqniues are discussed.
