Re: Fast Track woes

Thanks for the reply Arny. I didn't want to try and list my whole system at
this point. It is a Dell Dimension 8400, 3.2 GHz, 1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 400 MHz.
There are a whole lot of programs loaded (as a newbie it doesn't take long
to realize a dedicated machine is the way to do audio). I don't see anything
that would wake up intermittently.

The noise takes the form of 1/2 second bursts and sometimes stays steady
with the audio signal barely audible. As soon as I stop playback, it stops.
I have used MSConfig and checked only the bare minimum to load at start up.
I am sure you are right: there is something waking up and interupting the
signal. I have disabled my anti-virus. I unchecked the Sync. with internet
time box in Date and Time settings. Then the Task Manager shows nothing
running. It also shows quite a few processes, 35 to be exact, but they are
all double zeros. It shows System Idle Process as 99. I am not familiar with
the System Monitor but wil do some research. Called the local music store
where I bought the Fast Track and he says he has never heard of this
problem.

One can always hope someone has had a similar problem and knows an easy fix.

I am using an M-audio Fast Track Usb for recording and
sound card for my pc. I have disabled the internal Sound
Blaster card. The Fast Track works fine on another
computer but on mine I get really nasty white noise
intermittently while listening to any audio source. Spent
2 1/2 hours with m-audio support. They were concientious
but couldn't solve the problem. Went through IRQ's, you
name it. Tried all my usb inputs, all the same. Support
directed me to MusicXP.com and I performed all their
Tuning Tips except a couple dealing with the registry.
Ideas anyone? This is way frustrating. Thank you,

What you aren't telling us that could help is anything you know about the
host PC and the software running on it.

When you have a noise burst intermittantly on a PC, there's usually
something going on at the same time. The Task Manager and the System
Monitor can provide some clues.

The cause of the problem is usually some program that is loaded and
periodically wakes up and does something. Examples include:

Microsoft Word Fastfind or similar products
A wireless modem, partcularly running under Win98SE.
Anti-Virus or anti-spyware software.
