Trouble With Audio-Technica Pro24 Stereo Microphone

I bought an Audio-Technica Pro24 Stereo Microphone in December 2005
from Musician's Friend. I don't know much about microphones, but I
figured out that I needed to insert the battery and turn on the switch
before using it. The trouble is, it sounds horrible, whether I plug it
into my Archos AV500 or my desktop computer. I complained to Musician's
Friend, so they paid for me to return it. I got the replacement when I
returned from my vacation. But, it sounds no better than the one I
mailed back to them.
Is there something about this microphone that I need to do to make it
work? Is it not compatible with computer equipment? How reliable is
Musician's Friend?
Thank you.
