Thanks for the responses so far. As a first step, I plan to do the
following:
1. build removeable window "plugs"
2. install heavier doors
3. build risers for the drum kit and amps to reduce structural sound
transmission
I need suggestions as to the best materials to use for these
applications. Both the risers and the plugs will involve some kind of
"board" material and also some kind of "foam" material. What is the
best board to use? plywood? *** rock? MDF? some kind of plastic? What
about the foam? Closed cell? open cell? special acoustic foam? What are
the best kind of doors to use? Does anyone have design or installation
suggestions? Finally, what are the best isolators to install underneath
the risers?
I know there are websites with stuff people have written, but there is
often conflicting info and who knows how out of date it is. Please let
me know your thoughts.
Oh, and by budget for these first steps may be in the $500 range, but I
have up to $5000 to do further soundproofing if necessary.
