<<Anyone tried to use the Micro Track with Neumann KM 184 microphones?
They need phantom power, but are not listed at M-Audio as microphones
you can use... Do not want to use an external pre-amp when making field

recordings, defeats the point... (Or is there one, small and on
batteries available?) >>

You should be aware that the Micro Track supplies only 30 volts for its
phantom supply. Neumann mics need 48 volts or else the headroom is
seriously compromised. There are many external battery powered phantom
supplies which provide a full 48 volts.
