Perhaps the reason people draw the distinction is that electrets (at least,
those actually available on the market) just don't sound as good as "true"
condensers. I've never heard one that didn't sound at least a little dry and
grainy. (Sorry, Arny.) Whether this is the fault of the electret material,
And yet some of the best mics on the planet (DPA) are
electret. (Where "best" is defined as most accurate).
This according to Mr. Dorsey. Still dunno why they
need 140V rail to produce "mic-level" if they don't
need capsule charge voltage?
