Well, of course an electret is a condenser mic.

Perhaps the reason people draw the distinction is that electrets (at least,
those actually available on the market) just don't sound as good as "true"
condensers. I've never heard one that didn't sound at least a little dry and
grainy. (Sorry, Arny.) Whether this is the fault of the electret material,
or of poor implementation, I don't know.
