Humm I never really consider why
I alays just thought it took less power to push the lighter diaphram
and the lighter you can make the diaphram the faster it can mover and
respond to changes
along with needing to be small to generate the hf sound
intresting question I will be following the anwsers offer by the great men
of audio science
