Attention HHB CDR 850 owners

With reference to a thread here a week or so ago, about a CDR 850 that was
repaired.
I posted that I had spoken to a tech at HHB who told me there was a common
problem with a capactor leaking on older units and corroding the PCB, making
it skip and jump and otherwise fail.
I have my friends similarly faulty unit here and have identified the problem
component as the 1 Farad backup capacitor. This one is indeed leaking and
has deposited clear electrolyte over the board which has leached onto the
pins of a surface mount chip. It looks like I am going to have to reflow
the chip and possibly repair other damage.
I would urge any owner of these units to replce this capacitor now, before
the leakage occurs. This is not a simple repair by any means, once it gets
to this stage. If you don't need the memory functions I assume this
capacitor backs up, you could simply snip it off the board. It is on the
main PCB with all the surface mount stuff on it, just past the end of the
overhanging In/Out PCB.
It is similar to this:

Do it now!
Gareth.
