I assume you realize that converting an mp3 file to a midi file is not
just a matter of format conversion. It requires a form of intelligence.
In effect, the software need to listen to the music and determine from
that exactly what the musicians were doing. It's analogous to OCR, but
much harder. I do not follow this area, but as far as I know, none of the
software programs that attempt to do this are very useful.
Does anyone here have an idea of how large the demand would be for such
a program if it were good? Suppose I had a program that could transcribe
a symphony, or a pop single, or whatever, with something better than 95%
accuracy. Would there be a lucrative market for it?
