But it'd still be a small suitcase...external drive, soundcard...no need to
take em off and on, keep em hooked up in the case...and both are the size of
a small book anyway, and the whole rig would weight maybe 5-6 kg.
But you do have a point. U gotta limit it somewhere :-)

Sure...reliability would not be a problem for me really...I seldom use a
computer system for longer than a year anyway, so they don't have time to
wear out...and in that time I'd be carrying the system somewhere maybe half
a dozen times, max.

Yeah, well, I do, though it ain't too quiet...more like a jet plane taking
off with all the gear in it :-)

Well, there you go - I'm not doing it pro. Currently I'm doing a blues
project, last winter I did a 'heavy' album.
Badly mastered too bright examples at http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/deeaa
if interested.
I did those on my PC at home, I had a cheap Behringer board and a SM58 and a
C1000 and a compressor...for guitars/bass I recorded direct line and so on,
whenever I found the time to play something, you know. Cheap as can be. So
it'd be used for something similar, except this time around I've much much
better gear (a decent mic and a DBX pre/converter, sold away all the other
gear).

Well, I do know there are probems. I have an Echo Layla card. Pretty much
can't do anything else when working in Cubase at full power.

Yup, I've heard similar things meself...currently I use an USB drive, and
that's not that fast...50mb/s or so.

It did work fine for about a year, then I upgraded it a little...still works
but I changed pretty much all the drives etc. and reinstalled everything.
