Frequency cut/boost

Hi,

I was searching in google groups but dont really know what term to use
to refer to it.
What I want is to find a single range of frequency, hear it, and cut it
or boost it (something like CSI tools :) , I tried a Parametric EQ but
doesnt do what i want and used the "scientific filter" in Adobe
Audition getting a closer result but not all that what im want.
Maybe is a noob question, but if at least some1 can give me a clue or
how to look for it, i will appreciate.

Thanks.

.
