Electrically, it's the same thing. You want to get the tip of the plug
going to Pin 2 of the LXR and sleeve of the plug (probably the cable
shield) going to Pin 3 of the XLR. Quite simply, if the transformer
leads are connected to pins 2 and 3, the signal needs to be connected
there, too. And on an unbalanced 1/4" output, the signal is between the
tip and sleeve, not the tip and ring.
For purposes of experimentation, do whatever is easiest. However, once
you establish what works, I'd either make up a new cable or replace the
TRS plug with a TS plug so that you don't confused the modified cable
with a "normal" one.
I predict that eventualy you'll own more than one cable. <g>
