Re: my first recording mic

Hi Minnow - careful, some people will get upset with you when you ask
a question like this - it's a bit like asking what should my favourite
food be - but here's my two cents.

For the cash you want to spend, if you don't have any other
microphones, I'd buy a Shure SM57, Shure SM58 & an EV635A. Those
three, plus mic cables (don't forget those in your budget) will run
you $300 - $400. These are all well respected mics that you will be
able to use for as long as you're interested in recording. You'll
never "outgrow" them. You'll hear differences in how they sound so
you'll learn more than if you just buy one mic.

Check out google for lots of opinions on these and other microphones.
