Is this a built-in Windows program? Is it running unless it's turned
off (I may have turned it off in my setup years ago and forgotten)
Sometimes (but rarely) if I have the wireless card in the laptop and
boot up, it'll find a signal and connect automagically. Most of the
time, though (like for instance in the hotel that I'm in now) I need to
open the application that came with my SMC wireless network card,
search for signals, click on one, then "modify" the default profile to
make it connect.
If there's something built into Windows that should do this, I don't
know where to find it. When I'm not connected and click (or double
click) on the X'd-out network icon in the system tray, everything is
grayed out, so I can't kick it into action from there.
These computers really should come with instructions. <g>.
