An expensive gold plated turd, you mean. Anything with a mini jack is
bad news and will break some time, though this seems to be unusual.

Sounds like a gold plated piece of crap. If it even looks like a Radio
Shack adapter (whether it is or isn't) take it back to a Radio Shack
and ask them to replace it. They'll take back anything that looks like
it's theirs.
