This is typical. Basically, if it has a mini plug on it, it's going to
break. Those things are total disasters.

If Switchcraft makes one, it'll probably be less likely to break than
most. But if you want reliability, you are better off avoiding the
mini plug altogether.
And always get twice as many adaptors as you think you'll need, because
a lot of them will break.

So, chop it off and solder on a quarter phone. It's a pain soldering to
that tinsel wire, but you'll be happier in the long run.
