If you don't have the manual for your console, go here and downlaod a
copy:

And if you already have the manual, shame on you for not reading it.
Mackie manuals are quite informative. Look on Page 15. You'll see the
two ways in which an effect processor is connected to a mixer.
You'll notice that a microphone isn't shown. That's because most effect
processors don't have a microphone input. You'd connect the microphone
to one of the input channels and either use the "serial" connection if
you're going to use that processor only on that microphone, or the
"parallel" connection if you're going to use it with several
microphones.

Only if you want to use the "parallel" connection and have used all
your aux sends for monitors and don't have one left for the effect
processor.
