Making snake with D-sub connectors

I'm concerned about the uninsulated ground wires on each channel
causing ground loops or possibly even total destruction. They will make
contact with each other as they exit the cable and are bunched up
together inside the connector housing. I've thought about heat
shrinking them or coating them with that "liquid electrical tape" goop,
but I just want to know if that's necessary.
This approximately 20 ft. snake will be used in a small studio mainly
for mics of course, but I also want to run some headphones and midi
through it at the same time.
I'm thinking the mics' ground wires are all connected to the same place
inside the mixer anyway, so what's the difference, right? But what if I
want to run some mics to different preamps?
If I run headphones from the same mixer as the mics, do they use the
same ground?
Any midi devices will be plugged into the same outlet as the mixer.
I would appreciate any thoughts or concerns you have about the ground
wires, or anything else related to snake construction.
