Unless the amp is so noisy that it's interfering with speech between
songs, I'd forget about a noise gate. Odds are, if it works even then,
you're likely to lose some music here and there as well.
Work on the rig and the signal path to the rig. Where's the EQ set
on the rig? How much could be noise induced by superfluous pedals?
I'd be inclined to council on volume and then would grab the EQ on
the console long before a considering a noise gate.
