I don't think it's a turn at all. It's called the "Democratic
process", and people need to have the maturity to realize that you
don't always get your way in life. No matter how much more right or
how much better one thinks their way of doing things is, people just as
well intentioned may disagree. This is the value of Baseball I think,
it's useful for kids to learn how to deal with losing gracefully, and
to learn it's not all about one person. But when we die private or
socialized medicine, VAT or income taxes, whatever, it's all dust. In
the end it's a question of what is in people's hearts, and you can't
tell what that is because someone is waving a sign with the slogan of
any particular poltical party on it.

But it is also said that the road to hell is paved with good
intentions. For if the results of our actions hurt other people, even
unintentionally, and even if we meant well, we have to be responsible
for that. So all in all, a little humility is a useful thing I think.

Yet sometimes no matter what choice we make, no matter what
direction we take there will be negative consequences of one kind or
another that we will have to bear the burden for, and the best we can
do is choose the greatest good we can see. So we pick the lesser of two
evils and hope eventually our children get to live in a world where we
have cleaned things up enough that they have better choices available
to them than we did.
