That's the Jewish point of view,
My brother-in-law is a former evangelist, and after years of studying
the Bible he's concluded that the Jews are probably the closest to
knowing the truth. I wouldn't argue that point at all.
Isn't the asking-for-forgiveness ritual the big reason christianity caught
on in the first place? Back in Jesus's day, life was brutish and short,
and you had to fight for every scrap of everything. Everybody was a sinner
because they had to be in order to survive. Judaism stressed being a good
person, but christianity gave people an out.
At least that's what I always figured.
