It's a fact, which only bothers me because of the rampant dishonesty.
My DAQ/RTA is scheduled for delivery today.
I care about that.

Interested in hearing about this gadget. Specifics?
A Behringer DEQ2496.
I bought it for the RTA but the more I read on line people who
really like it use it for room correction/eq.
It extremely versatile and you can get the unit and a mic
and cable for under $300.

I use an eq in one system, but there are several arguments against these
things:
1. Allowing an automatic correction of a deep null stresses the amp and
speaker.
So don't do that. I'll let you know after I set it up and get some
time to
play with it.
It was a 3fer IMO.
A DAQ, a FR (spectrum analyzer), and a versatile EQ.
I was looking for a DAQ and this box doesn't have the latest
AKM but it does have lots of other goodies.

Interesting thread from just yesterday:http://groups.google.com/group/rec..audio.pro/browse_thread/thread/8f2...
So it has digital input that can be hooked directly to consumer SP/DIF ?
Yup, optical or coax.
Older digital pro eq's lack this feature.
The Orions have simple adjustments on the bass and tweeter crossovers
for level changes. I find the tweeter one really sensitive and
extremely broadband
impact. I also find it a lot easier to tweek if I have a reference.
Right not its just a simple AC Vrms at a 100 or 1150 hz that I tweek
and then listen for a few days or weeks.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
These are trouble frequencies?
No, those are the crossover points.
SL provides a disc for adjusting the crossover with reference
voltages spec'd and you have the option of going up or down a
couple db. The bass adjust isn't particularly audibly sensitive but
the tweeter is.
Recordings are all over the map. I can get some sounding really
good but there is always a screecher. I keep coming back to modern
cool
as my standard. I just got a couple more of her CDs and they are also
very well recorded.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So the motivation is to make the Orions work better with a wider range of
recordings? I would say, look for trouble in the 4kHz range. IME, that's
where it really hits the ear. 8K is treble, and 16K is almost "air".
That would be one motivation. The speaker crossover adjust is 1.5kHz
and up.
This will give me some flexibility.
What AKM chip does it use?
I don't know. I was trying to find it.
I saw it referenced in some discussion of 4396
but that's 192kHz capable and this device is only 96kHz
but that doesn't mean it isn't that chip.
It isn't spec'd other than AKM.
Who in AMG gives Modern Cool only 2.5 stars and doesn't even
recognize Love, Put on your faces any recognition?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would like to buy a clue on that ;)
