Until recently you were in my kill-file because of your battles and it
wasn't worth the trouble to sort you out from your nemesis.

If you persist in starting attack threads, you'll return to it.

Bob's attacks have turned out to have the opposite effect. At least
two people have emailed me to tell me that they're reading all of my
articles as a result of this, and they're enjoying them immensely.

Not one person has said "Hey, Bob's right!"

Refusing to read your article on listening shows he's more into games
than communication.

The reason I did not care to comment on his article is this:

Marc Phillips consistently misstates the dispute between us. It is this: He
said his judgement is superior to mine, in a subjective area where
judgement is inherently nontransferable. To emphasize, it is not about the
worth of vintage audio equipment, or any equipment at all. It is about his
assumed right to assert subjective judgement for others, and about his
assumed right to invalidate the opinions of others, by his own assertion of
authority.

Unfortunately, if Marc Phillips can simply resort to invalidating the
opinions of another simply by asserting his own superior discrimination,
this makes fair audio discussion impossible.

My response was to ask him for a very simple favor: Don't do it. At least,
don't do it to me. I didn't even ask him not to believe it. I simply asked
him not to do it.

Every time I make that request, he goes adhominem. The most disgusting of
these was his reference to McCarty's fake police flyer. It was then, and
only then, that I contacted his editor. It is not fair to slander another
using a document known to be fake.

As far as my own authority in the audio hobby, I have none, and I seek none.
It would not surprise me that, given Marc's opinion about a gadget, and my
own, a reader would probably go with Marc's. That is not what this is about.

My request is so small, and the cost to Marc is nothing, so I am surprised
that he has not considered accomodation.
