I was about 37 when CDs were first available. Thing is that I had access

some digital recordings a few years before that,

Using what media?

The media was Betamax tape. The PCM-F1 allowed that to function as a digital
audio medium.

I heard digital before Arny did? I saw a PCM-F1 in action in '82 or '83.
My first digital demo was at some kind of tech convention and featured a
floppy drive. Zippy. '81 or '82 possibly. Then there was that
Synclavier, not really a playback medium, a year or two later.

Arny probably had access to real recordings, not the random demos I
heard before my first cd player in spring 1985.
