Putting tubes on PCBs is a sure recipe for disaster, be
it delayed.

The heat generated by the tube is partly
conducted through the base and the pins into the socket.

The solder will crystallize, and the tube + socket will
fall off after some time (compare the looks after several
years of a solder joint on a PCB of a power resistor that
gets hot).

No such thing!

Nearly 30 years of hands-on experience tell me otherwise, Arny.

But I never could win from armchair engineers ;-)

You're not using the right solder. Common 60/40 Sn Pb should not be
used in high temp applications.

Since you should be lead free.. this paper gives good summary of lots
of different alloys reliability in hi-temp applications.
