Yes, I would like the entire paper, thanks. Not so
much for this discussion (though it might be of
interest here) but because I have a great deal of
professional interest in the Mercury recordings due
to my relationship with Maestro Fennell.

Must have skipped over Jenn's head.

Huh?

The excerpt does reveal some food for thought.
Contrary to Arny's feverish beliefs, I have an open
mind about these things. In fact, I WANT CD to
better LP in every way.

It will as soon as you get past your biases.

And violin will sound better to you on the best LPs as
you get past your biases.

Lame IKWYABWAI noted.

Whatever.

It's interesting that Wilma Cozart thinks that
these are the best sounding CD that exist, but that
the LP still sound better, i.e. in her words, "More
like the Eastman Theatre sounds."

Interesting given this article about her involvement
with digital transcriptions

http://www.soundfountain.com/amb/mercury.html

I'm sorry; was there something in there that I missed
that contradicted what I wrote? BTW, thanks for
posting a piece that mentions my mentor.

No independent support for purported Wilma Cozart
quote, noted. See searchable form of paper above.

You didn't answer the question, but one is used to that
now. Wilma said that to me at the Eastman School,
2/7/04.

IOW Jenn, you could have misunderstood what she was
saying or meant

I doubt it. The quote was very close to, "The sound of
the new CDs is quite good, I think, but the LPs capture
the sound of this theater (the Eastman Theater, in which
we were standing) and all of it nuances better."

Since she apparently oversaw the transfer to CD, she's indicting her own
skills and work product. If she wants to engage in self-criticism, fine.

As usual Jenn, you're playing the role of the vinyl bigot who wants to
twist
an offhand comment about a specific situation that only you can report,
into global *proof* that the LP has some kind of mysterious superiority
for
reproducing the sound of music. If that's how you want to type-cast
yourself, be my guest.

Arny says in his best professorial manner:
" > As usual Jenn, you're playing the role of the vinyl bigot who wants

How equivocal is thia comment from D'Agostino designer of
state -of-the-art Krell transistor amps: ?
"I still think vinyl is better, but with two formats we're dealing with
now,
DVD-Audio and SACD I think there's possibility of equalling vinyl..."
(Stereophile, December 2003, p. 78)
The comment contains not one but three blasphemous statements:
Vinyl is better than red book cd. Sacd is better than red book cd.
DVD-A
is better than red book cd.
A fatwa is called for. D'Agostino's body guards will not protect
him.
To prophesy four prospective responses:
1) "This was 2003. Things ae different now."
I suppose you can a) quote yourself agreeing with D'Agostino in 2003
when " things were different"
or b) Quote D'Agostino saying that things have changed since 2003
Alternatively that he read RAO gurus and saw the light.
c) The response someone (was it you?) made that D'Agostino is
engaged in a complicated Macchiavelian manouevre to boost his new
amps at the expense of his old ones. Self-love goes no further.
Ludovic Mirabel

Seems more like some education is needed since it is already clear that CD
reproduces any recording much bettter than LP ever could. If you doubt
that, the problem is yours.
