"Obviously"? _What_is obvious? Arny was treated with
respect by the show and hotel staff; his travel and hotel
arrangements were all with incident; he was allowed
to speak about what he wanted for as long as he wanted;
no-one disrupted his presentation; in the MP3 I made
available of the debate, Mr. Krueger's points were
presented in their entirety; and I treated him with
courtesy not only during the debate but before and
after.Yes, we had an equipment failure, for which I
apologized to Arny, but Arny said at the time that it
did not affect his presentation.

The absence of the basic infrastructure for a business presentation, which
was promsed was not a show-stopper, partially because I anticipated it. My
anticipation of this failure was based on how slap-dash the whole HE2005
affair presented itself to me as being.

I would say that the most obvious disrespect was Atkinson's lack of
preparation for the debate. I see no evidence of any preparation on his part
at all. The debate's productivity, and its use of my time suffered
accordingly.

Please reconcile your above statement with your
quoted text below.

In your stated business objective you wrote "If, after
having listened to the best that high-end audio has
to offer, both in the way of digital and analog playback,
Mr. Krueger still feels that the whole business is a
fraud, well at least that opinion will be based on
exposure to it."

The lie here is Atkinson's claim that I thought or think that high end audio
is entirely a fraud. I've explained on RAO many times that I see audio's
high end composed of two markets.

One segment of the high end market is the market for genuinely high
performance equipment, for example a subwoofer that can generate 125 dB at
10 Hz with less than 10% THD, or main speakers that can generate 115 dB
40-20 KHz with low distortion, smooth response, and excellent directivity
control. Equipment like this is naturally expensive and difficult to produce
and install properly. It's like the audio equivalent of a top-of-the-line
Lexus or Mercedes.

The segment of the high end market that I object to is the market for things
like CD players with blue lights in the disc compartment, speaker cables in
water jackets, etc.

Therefore, its simply false to say that I object to the "whole business" of
high end audio. I object to the floobydust, "You can fool some of the people
all of the time" aspect of high end audio as represented by the high end
audiophile press.

Having done the above, please list for me how you
would measure the achievement of your business
objectives? In other words, if we were in a business
meeting how would you explain, in terms of business
objectives and measured results, to your collages,
in terms of how the event benefitted Stereophile for the
money and effort expended.

Good question Powell. Very insightful. I eagerly await a cogent response
from Atkinson - but I'm not holding my breath. For one thing a proper answer
would take more thought than Atkinson apparently gave the entire HE2005
debate, from start to finish.
