Yes, he has the reason for the sorry performance all wrong.
most American orchestras are pretty abysmal.
There are more better players to fill the ranks than there were before,
yet the performances are at the extremes, either schlock or lifeless.
I liked it better when Solti, Reiner, VonKarajan, Ansermet,
Szell and the liked just had the music played as it was supposed to be,
within
an acceptable range of interpretation.
Maybe its the way conducters are trained these days.
Or is it the lack of listening skill?
Or just a bad idea of what they think classical music is supposed to sound
like?
