Sounds like a short on the internals itself that runs the illumination
circuit. Have you take the radio out yet and tested to make sure you have
no voltage on the illumination wire coming from the switch? That is where I
would start first.

Hi All
I have a wierd problem. My car stereo has been working fine. But lately
after having the battery disconnected for a while and now reconnecting
it, the stereo lights/illumincation will not turn off. Even when the
key is not in the ignition. It is running the battery flat. This
never used to happen. It is really wierd. You walk past the car at
night at the stereo and cd player is all lit up.
Anybody have any ideas where to look?
The car is a 97 EK2 Honda Civic 1.3L manual. Japanese import.
It is a factory Honda stereo - 2 piece unit with the tuner in the dash
and the cd player installed down below it at the front of the centre
console.
Thanks
.
