Subwoofer sounds blown, but work

My subwoofer problems started with a bad cd player. My subouts on my cd
player started rumbling like thunder and popping. Then all of a sudden the
sub sounded very weird, like a miscalculated ported subbox, where some freqs
are boomy. I opened the trunk for a look and a listen and saw both drivers
were moving and i heard some quiet rumbling, but it was constant. i hadn't
heard this rumbling in the cab. I checked the voltage on the subouts and
saw there was a DC offset. I knew this was bad and took the sub out. I
checked the sub inside my apt. Both drivers move and both have the same
impedance. I'm not really sure how to test them, so i hooked them up to a
difference source. it seems like the drivers extend further than they used
to, and don't seem to go very low in freq, and some freq are boomy. Does
anyone know what could be wrong, or if you need more information, what
should i check?
my specs: Sony CD player (sent back to sony for repairs/replacement),
Rockford Fosgate Punch! 150, two Eminence Kappa Pro 12" drivers in a two
chamber box (drivers in sealed and face a ported chamber).
Thanks for any suggestions!
