Book Tempe got married while earning her undergraduate degree at
Northwestern, and had her daughter, Katy, while earning her Master's.
There really isn't a complete Booth analog (not even by committee)
in the books. One of the two police officers she most frequently works
with, Detective Andrew Ryan of the Quebec Provincial Police, is the closest
match, he is the romantic interest.
Did she get divorced from Katy's father? Or did he die?
In the stories based in and around Montreal, there is an analog to the tv
Jeffersonian Institute, the Laboratoire des Sciences Judiciaires et de
Médecine Légale, which is a very real organization in Montral, which serves
as the primary forensics lab for the Province of Quebec, and the
metropolitan areas therein.
And where she works part of the time.
One of the things that Gil Gross mentioned in that hour with Kathy
Reichs the other day (although after she had to leave for a talk)
was that he can't believe everything she manages to juggle: working
in forensics labs in two cities a thousand miles apart, writing books,
reviewing all the scripts for the TV show, and taking on special
projects such as testifying at a U.N. genocide trial in Rwanda. At
least her kids are grown now, but still, whew!
