Impact (recorded) - *Egads*, this was terrible!! It's not that the
science was horrific (it was!) - it was that the whole thing was so
*boring* AND rushed!! You know, I've seen both "Virtuality" and
"Mission to Mars" within the last week, and both of those movies
actually made the science *interesting* - not "Impact"!! But, the
worst part was how *listless* and uninvolving the whole thing was,
even during the "action" sequences. This, along with NBC's "10.5" may
get my vote for the worst 4-hour TV movies ever made...
boring and rushed - yeah, that's perfect.
Let me make one 'science' observation: somewhere along the line, they
completely forgot that the Moon now masses twice what the Earth does.
With suit, JAGGUY would weigh over 1000 pounds. He wouldn't be hopping
around building stuff, he'd be laying on his back, flapping like a fish
out of water. Their craft would never soft land in 2gs, much less take
off again (not to mention they were out of air just working on the
surface; where did they get the gas for a return trip??).
Remember on MST3K when they said (sarcastically, duh) "This movie works
because you care about the characters"? I spent most of it hoping the
brown dwarf hunk (or as RavenLynne would call it, Giant Space Turd)
would win and kill them all.
I have no idea why the THUNDARR THE BARBARIAN ending was a *good* thing;
why would the moon split in 2 long after the Giant Space Turd was gone?
Why would we WANT it to? Why would the 2 parts just sit there a couple
hundred miles apart? Argh!
Always good to see James Cromwell die, but, really, the jerk from the
diner ends up with a NASA pass hanging out in mission control? "Thank
you for bringing the children, sir. Now step away from the guardhouse
or I will shoot you. Have a nice day."
Faced with certain death (and finding out about it because they'd been
lied to by their leaders) the people of the world join hands and sing
Kum-bay-yah. Nobody takes the opportunity to wipe out a neighboring
country, or even a neighbor.
THEY FLEW A CRUISE MISSILE *DOWN* ON THE MOON USING IT'S WINGS TO
MANUEVER????? They actually *did* swipe all that from EARTHSTORM.
Amazing.
Deep hurting.
