Yeah, I couldn't believe that scene. You're going to shoot-out the tires of car that maybe carrying a nuclear bomb? Knowing that you could explode cause a nuclear explosion? LOL
Most nuclear weapon designs will not detonate as a result of fire, a crash, or similarly. There could be a release of radioactive material however.

These bombs were described as having the fissionable material at one
end, and the nuclear "bullet" at the other. Detonation being when one
was fired into the other. A car crash could certainly cause this, had
they been "real" bombs.

Sounds like the Hiroshima bomb's design. There are two factors to consider here:

One, a crash would have to be at a particular orientation to accelerate the bullet in the right direction. It would still be moving slower than when the bomb was triggered normally. The supercritical mass would not be assembled quickly enough, and you'd probably get a radiation pulse and a small but very dirty bang instead of the expected several-Kt bigger bang.

It could still be pretty bad -- basically a neutron bomb going off.

Two, a simple removable safety pin in the design would make it crash-proof. The instructions would be "drive to near the target, pull the pin, set the timer, and run like hell" or thereabouts. Such a safety measure is easy and cheap to add and serves the users' interests, if they prefer the bomb to go off at a particular place and/or time.
