Exactly.

I'm intrigued, even though I didn't follow this series. Nobody's said
it yet, so how *did* the series end?

He was actually an astronaut and woke up en-route to Mars.  His computer
generated, virtual reality induced during the deep sleep segment of the trip
was as a cop in 2008.   It was explained that a computer glitch interrupted
that fantasy and that's how he ended up dreaming he was in 1973 instead.
Basically a fantasy within another fantasy.   His fellow cops in 1973 were
fellow astronauts.  I also thought it was a great touch that Annie, the
put-upon female cop in 1973 was actually the mission leader.  :)

I also liked the little joke that the goal of the Mars mission was to
find biological samples -- that they were on a "gene hunt."

By the way, I didn't see much reference to last week's episode on
here, where the Frank Morgan character was causing so much trouble (as
he was in the UK version, too).

For those who didn't pick up on the reference, Frank Morgan was the
name of the actor who played the Wizard in the "Wizard of Oz" movie.
Thus, it was Frank Morgan who was calling the shots and telling Sam
last week to "ignore the man behind the curtain."
