And why would "they" (whom I take to refer to the producers of the
show, rather than either network under discussion) care what station
people watch their show on? They should care more that it gets watched
at all.

No. None of the nasty things that you have said or implied about me
are at all true.
When Canadian TV networks go to the US to buy programs to air here
in Canada, they are buying from the US networks, not the show producers.
Then that is their mistake.
The US networks care a lot about how people view the show, because they've
paid good money to buy the product. If they can't sell advertising to
go with the show, then the network loses money. If they can't attract
enough audience to the show, then they can't charge very much for
the advertising, and thus lose money on the deal.
Then they can air it at the proper time on the proper date. They can
air it again a few hours later if they think part of their usual
audience was watching something else at the time.
The behavior you describe seems like what you'd expect if an episode
was a physical object that could not be easily duplicated, so they
could show it at only one time and then it was gone, instead of just
showing it multiple times.
If they did the right thing, we would not be having this discussion.
And the Canadian networks really should be able to do their own thing,
independently, and not have their schedules dictated by any outside
agency as you claim is happening.

If you don't have anything original to say, wildfyre, try shutting up
instead of vomiting up large quantities of regurgitated material as if
it were your own thoughts.

As far as early viewing and spoiling people goes, I watch Numb3rs 2 hours
before the east coast because of the Maritime feed. After watching, I used
to post on a Numb3rs fansite about the episode, which people who want to
know about what happened could read about it or they can choose to remain
spoiler-free, since we designate a thread for discussing the show.
Michael, of course, thinks people are too stupid to steer clear of a
thread marked [SPOILERS] if they don't want to be spoiled.
I realize this site has a miniscule number of people reading, not even a blip
on the ratings radar, but I've found that talking early about the show makes
people want to see that night's episode that much more.
At least you "get" some things that Michael evidently doesn't.
