For me, the major issue is his (and the Dem's in general) stance on
the 2nd Amendment.
Well, I respectfully disagree with your basic premise. Obama said in
a speech just last week, "I'm not going to take your guns."
Either you think I'm stupid or you actually are so naive as to believe
that a campaign speech somehow wipes away his voting record
and previous comments on the issue, in addition to the years and
years that the Democratic Party has been the standard bearer of
"gun control".
Biden is a hunter. He has addressed this issue in his speeches, too.
And so is John Kerry, I even saw him dressed up in hunters
orange once...
But then the 2nd Amendment isn't about hunting, it's about our
inalienable human right to defend ourselves and thus to keep and
bear the arms that allow us to do so.
But I digress. The realities of being an elected Federal official will
certainly conflict with the positions he took as a state senator.
"I am not in favor of concealed weapons, I think that creates a
potential atmosphere where more innocent people could get shot
during altercations."
-- Barack Obama --
"I think we should reinstate the assault weapons ban (that expired
in 2004) in order to give our police officers a fighting chance against
the criminals on the street with these military-style assault weapons,"
-- Hillary Clinton --
"If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States
for an out right ban, picking up every one of them... Mr. and Mrs.
America, turn 'em all in, I would have done it."
-- Dianne Feinstein --
"We're going to hammer guns on the anvil of relentless legislative
strategy! We're going to beat guns into submission!"
-- Charles Schumer --
"If I had my way, sporting guns would be strictly regulated, the rest
would be confiscated "
-- Nancy Pelosi --
Sorry, but I'll have to base my decisions on the words and actions
of Obama and the Dem's over a post from some guy on Usenet.
Some gun control is sensible. The assault weapons ban, for example.
Who the hell needs an assault weapon to go hunting? I'm not a gun fan.
I don't believe handguns have a place in our society. Assault weapons
are nothing more than a quick and powerful way for criminals to kill
cops.
It's interesting that for all the heat the Left gives religious fundies
(and rightfully so) when it comes to the 2nd Amendment, they are
really no different.
Both steadfastly believe in a fantasy that cannot be supported by
facts and will instead use hysteria, twisted data, out-right lies and
personal attacks on the opposition in an effort to force everyone
to accept their bizarre view of reality.
The fact is, guns don't cause crime. If they did, crime rates would
be more or less equal throughout the U.S. and we all know that's
not the case.
For example; Detroit and Macomb County share a border (the
infamous 8 Mile Rd) and both areas have approximately the same
population level and both have the same access to firearms and
residents of both have to abide by the same state and Federal
firearm regulations.
Yet while Macomb has between 6-20 murders per year, (and
the vast majority of these are committed by Detroiters) Detroit
averages _400 murders per year_ and has been doing so since
the early 1970's.
And this despite Macomb having the largest number of CCW
licensees in Michigan walking around with handguns in their
pockets and purses. And I suspect that once all the CCW
holders, hunters, target shooters, gun collectors, ect. in Macomb
are factored in, it is very likely that we are the most heavily armed
county in Michigan.
Surely if firearms are to blame, the data would show the crime
rate in Macomb to be at least the same as Detroit's, if not far
higher?
Yet according to the FBI, in 1999 Michigan had 714 murders
state wide but 415 of them were in the city of Detroit. So a city
that makes up only 9.8% of the states population somehow
accounted for 58% the murders in Michigan.
If guns = crime, why am I not knee-deep in blood?
That said, I fully suppor[t] the Second Amendment,
Well.... except the part about keeping and bearing arms.
Finally, Wikipedia is hardly the go to source for indisputable
information on anything.
Feel free to show that what I posted is false.
