Have you not watched a "State of the Union" speech?

The major networks usually broadcast the C-Span feed.

Technically, C-Span and all the other networks carry a feed produced by the
House of Representatives.

Permitted but *not* produced.

From the C-SPAN website...

"C-SPAN is a private, non-profit company, created in 1979 by the cable
television industry as a public service. Our mission is to provide
public access to the political process. C-SPAN receives no government
funding; operations are funded by fees paid by cable and satellite
affiliates who carry C-SPAN programming."

By the cable TV industry. I don't think any of the major broadcast networks like CBS
and NBC owned a cable network at the time. I don't THINK they did I repeat. I am not
willing to bet on it LOL, but if I am right then there is no parallel to the joint
NBC/CBS of the White House tour. Also, when you get down to it, The Tour was
entertainment. There wasn't anything really newsworthy about it, unlike the State of
the Union Address which has the President outlining his policies and the Opposition
giving a critique and what it would do instead. Cynicism aside, those are newsworthy
items, not how the Lincoln Bedroom was remodeled or preserved or who made the White
House China stoneware.
