But hasn't misdirection always been a part of live magic acts? Show
off the cleavage, and people won't be paying attention to what
the magician is doing. Wave that hand over there while doing something
with your other hand.

If people are looking at a big monitor, then they aren't watching
the magician, and surely that's the point.

This went beyond that. The idea was that he's supposed to be doing
close up magic, and the monitor is just to let you see what's going on.
But in fact they're showing a tape of god knows what. It's not like the
trick is in there someplace and he stops moving his real hands and his
video hands keep going as a pay-off or something. They just showed a
recorded trick and tried to pass it off as live and got caught.

Hey, whatever happened to . . . damn, what was his name, the world's
most dangerous magician . . Rudy Coby? He had that one brilliant
special and I never heard of him again.
