Aren't they really just infomercials that they put on instead of
paying for real programs? I can't believe people shell out money for
more of what they put on for these drives. Most of which was on during
the last drive. I'd settle for reruns of stuff they used to show in
the 70's or 80's.
Yeah, they're just awful. When they started doing those, I put my pledge back in my pocket.
I have noticed, in general, that no matter how good the intention of the service provided, non-profits eventually become as bloodthirsty as for-profit corporations in seeking income.
I have started telling charities that if I receive more than one letter of solicitation from them per year, I'll take them off my list. I'm not sending an organization money to be used for sending me junk mail! I don't mind the junk mail so much -- I just toss it -- but the waste of money irritates the hell out of me.
Same for PBS. If they want to have an annual pledge drive, I won't complain and will send them money. If they would rather have a monthly pledge drive, send me junk mail, and sell air time for infomercials, they can do that. Just don't expect to get both.
