So, I guess my only hesitation on picking a new browser is which one
to switch to. Don't laugh, but I still use NS as a shell over AOL to
do my Internets surfing -- AOL's ISP is kinda like having a second
layer of antivirus and firewall underneath Norton and I like having
national access numbers *and* living in the sticks means I don't have
access to WiFi or data lines. Microsuck Explorer now has tabbed
browsing, which makes switching to it less of an issue than it would
have been in the past, but the last I saw, when you import your NS
bookmarks into Explorer, they're displayed as HTML links on a single
page rather than as bookmarks, which still makes Firefox seem like the
best option to me. If Explorer's bookmark import function has changed
to something sensible, then I *might* change my mind.
Not that I would encourage anyone to use a Microsoft client for
anything, but it says the bookmark file ends up in My Documents as
bookmarks.htm. It might be possible to fix the structure by running it
through a table in Word or Excel or Access, then exporting it. Probably
just a minor change in field order.
I was going to see what happens, but it's not obvious to me how to
import a bookmark file from Firefox to IE favorites. If I play around
with it and figure it out, I'll let you know.
I guess I don't understand why AOL insists that its users stop using a
specific browser. What kind of stupidity is that?
