About a week or so ago I posted my ratings predictions results of last
May for first and second place showings for this fall. I couldn't
find that posting in Google [damn them for always monkeying around
with my posts] to provide a more accurate count here of what was in
it, but going by rough memory of it, I got 10 out of 19 hours
[Saturday excluded] correct for first place showings, 5 right for
second place, and 4 wrong, but those 4 were due to the last-minute
changes to the sked that ABC and NBC made and which I just didn't get
around to making any modifications on my predictions for those hours.
Nevertheless, not bad, huh? In total, 15 correctly picked hours out
of 19.
Now this time - and this should be of particular interest to you - I'm
giving my results on some of the new shows' premise potential and my
interest, or lack of, in them before having seen a single frame of
film of any of them. I know how you love to deride me for my ability
to know how well or not a show will do in the creative sense. Well,
here's a reprint of that original post, Assessing Fall '07, with my
additional comments on the general gut-level impressions I had back
then. Then tell me if I'm dead on or not in most cases. Of course,
you have to remember this is strictly all from my p.o.v. and what I
ended up watching and not watching.
I read it since you specifically called me out but I dunno what I'm
supposed to say. You're reiterating your opinions from 3 months ago
and like you said, it's your p.o.v.
--- Leaves you stumped, huh? It's just to show you that yes, it's
quite possible to have a fairly accurate gut reaction to shows that
haven't aired yet and be right about them, in a very general sense,
most of the time. Yes, it's my p.o.v., which is ultimately what
matters, but it seems that according to your p.o.v., that's not
possible for one to be able to do on just the basis of a series title
and a single line or two synopsis,
You're right, it is possible to hate everything in advance and then,
after watching just barely enough of a show to feel like your opinion
is validated, reaffirm that you do, in fact, hate everything.
as you've mentioned to me a few times in the past. I've just shown you how it's done, that's all.
Once again, next stop: Vegas, baby!
--- Evidently, Mr. David, you didn't read the whole thing. I didn't
hate everything *before* I saw any of the new shows; but I pretty well
ended up hating just about everything *after* I saw the new shows.
