thanks

"Captain Gallant of the French Foreign Legion" with Buster Crabbe.

And his son, 'Cuffy' Crabbe played the kid.

I saw an episode of that recently. Captain Gallant was defending a
legionaire for some crime, but when he found that the guy was a nazi,
he went over, and became the prosecuter. Because you can do that if you
discover that the guy you are defending in a Nazi...

How did that come out?

Because you were supposed to lose your identity, or maybe not
even have one, when you joined the Legion. That was part of the
appeal (and the French citzenship when you fulfilled your
service obligation).

So you'd have criminals joining up to get lost. And you had
Germans joining up after WWII so they could get lost.

It came out that it was an American TV show, with the popular at the
time American morals. It was an "Adventure" TV show, and in no way did
it pretend to be a realistic portrayal of the concept of the French
Foreign Legion.
